UN Watercourses Convention Online User's Guide

The UNWC Global Initiative, launched in 2006 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in conjunction with the University of Dundee's Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science as well as Green Cross, is one of the high-profile campaigns surrounding the UN Watercourses Convention. The Global Initiative has to date mobilised a wide range of actors including governments, international organisations and academics in an attempt to raise awareness, build capacity, and support countries interested in ratifying the Convention and implementing it.

As part of this global campaign, the UNWC Online User's Guide (Rieu-Clarke, Kinna & Litke, 2013) website was created as a multi-media tool to make the print version of the "UN Watercourses Convention User’s Guide" (Rieu-Clarke, Moynihan & Magsig, 2012) more widely accessible. It is intended for anyone wishing to gain more insight into the content and relevance of the Convention’s text, as well as its practical implementation.

The website contains the following features:
  • An easy to navigate Article-by-Article guide to the UNWC, including in-depth analysis of the text of the Convention, definitions of key terms, frequently asked questions and explanations of important theoretical/practical aspects of the UNWC.
  • Case studies analysing the role and relevance of the UNWC in geographical regions around the globe.
  • Multi-media resources, including videos by experts in the relevant fields of water law and policy from around the world.
  • Concise and informative Fact Sheets on key issues related to the UNWC, specifically its interpretation and implementation.
  • Quizzes within each section to test your knowledge and understanding of the UNWC.
  • ‘News & Events‘ section regularly keeps you updated with global water topics and events.

TWL Consultancy's Rémy Kinna project managed the website's design, functionality and overall development.
